An earthquake in Nepal on Saturday (25 April 2015) shook Kathmandu and much of the rest of the country. Hundreds are feared dead and aftershocks continue. A strong 7.5-magnitude earthquake has hit near Nepal's capital of Kathmandu and the U.S. Geological Survey says it expects heavy damage. Here is the video footage from a security camera that shows the earthquake.
Nepal earthquake: Hundreds die, many feared trapped. Nearly 1,000 are known to have died in a powerful earthquake in Nepal, with many more feared trapped under rubble. The 7.8 magnitude nepal quake struck an area between capital, Kathmandu, and the city Pokhara. Tremors were felt across the region, with further loss of life in India, Bangladesh, Tibet and on Mount Everest.
The government declared state of emergency in the affected areas of nepal´s earthquake. A police spokesman told that 970 people had died in the nepal quake, and more than 1,600 been injured by the nepal earthquake. At least 439 people were killed near Kathmandu valley by the nepal eartquake.
Tremors were felt across eastern and northern parts of India, said JL Gautam, Head Operations Seismology of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). "Earthquake of magnitude 7.5 occurred today at 11.41 AM between latitude 28.1 North and Longitude 84.6 East. The epicentre was located in Nepal," an IMD statement said.
In Delhi and parts of the National Capital Region, people were seen running out of their houses after buildings shook for well over a minute. However, there are no reports of any damage in Delhi.
Tremors were also felt in Patna, Lucknow, Kolkata, Jaipur, Chandigarh and other cities.
